Invited Talk Title: Classification and Management of Lung Disease

Synopsis: The year 2020 has seen the world being traumatized with Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 virus that attacked human respiratory system originated from Wuhan, China currently spread to the rest of the world including Malaysia. This talk will discuss the classification and management of various lung disease including Covid-19 and the current work involved.

Brief Bio:

Norliza Mohd Noor is currently attached as Professor in UTM Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kuala Lumpur Campus.  She received her B. Sc. In Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and her Master of Electrical Engineering (by research) and PhD (Electrical Engineering) from UTM.  Her research area is in image processing and image analysis. Her current work concentrates on medical image analysis using machine and deep learning techniques for lung diseases, calcification detection using IVUS images and handwriting recognition.  She has published many papers in journals and in indexed conference proceedings, and has published one academic book and 3 book chapters. Currently she is the Head of the Electrophysiology Research Group, and Malaysia Quality Assurance auditor for Electrical Engineering B.Sc and M.Sc program.

She is a senior member of IEEE  (since 2008) where she has been a member for more than 34 years starting as student member while studying in USA.  In 1998-2001, she held several key positions in IEEE Malaysia Section. She is the founding chapter chair for IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter in 2002 and she held the position till 2006.   She was elected as the IEEE Malaysia Section Chair for two years 2013-2014.  She is an active IEEE volunteer and held key positions in IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter and IEEE Engineering Medicine and Biology Society Malaysia Chapter till now.  Currently, she is the interim chair for IEEE Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Subsection which was formed in February 2021. In international level, IEEE MGA committee positions she held are IEEE EAB Certificates Program Committee 2019-2021, IEEE Senior Member Panel Reviewer 2019-2020, IEEE HAC Event Evaluation Panel 2020, and IEEE SIGHT Group Petition Evaluation Panel 2020-2021. Previously, she was a committee member in IEEE MBPAC 2017-2018, IEEE MGA GUOS Technical Society Representative 2015-2016, and IEEE R10 Individual Benefits & Services Coordinator 2015-2016.

Dr. Mohamed-Slim Alouni

Invited Talk Title: Connecting the Remaining 4 Billion: A Key 6G Challenge & Opportunity

Professor Alouini general research interests include design and performance analysis of diversity combining techniques, MIMO techniques, multi-hop/cooperative communications systems, optical wireless communication systems, cognitive radio systems, green communication systems and networks, wireless communication systems and networks in extreme environments, and integrated ground-airborne-space networks. He is currently actively working on addressing the uneven global distribution, access to, and use of information and communication technologies by studying and developing new generations of aerial and space networks as a solution to provide connectivity to far-flung, less populated, and/or hard-to-reach areas.

Professor Alouini has published several papers on the above subjects and he is co-author of the textbook Digital Communication over Fading Channels published by Wiley Interscience. He has also won several awards in his career. For instance, he recently received the 2020 IEEE Vehicular Technology Society James Evans Avant-Garde Award and the 2019 Technical Achievement Award of the IEEE Communication Society Communication Theory Technical Committee. Prior to this, he was honored in 2017 with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Science and Technology (S&T) Achievement Award in Engineering Science at the First OIC Summit on Science and Technology, Astana, Kazakhstan. He also received the 2016 Recognition Award of the IEEE Communication Society Wireless Technical Committee as well as the 2016 Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers in Engineering Sciences. Other recognitions include his selection as (i) Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Optical Society of America (OSA), the African Academy of Science (AAS), the European Academy of Science and Arts (EASA), and the Academia Europaea (AE), (ii) IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Communication Society and for the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, (iii) member for several times in the annual Thomson ISI/Clarivate Web of Knowledge list of Highly Cited Researchers as well as the Shanghai Ranking/Elsevier list of Most Cited Researchers and the AMiner 2020 list of the AI 2000 Most Influential Scholars in the area of Internet of Things, and (iv) a co-recipient of best paper awards in thirteen IEEE journals/conferences (including Communication Surveys & Tutorials, ICC, GLOBECOM, VTC, PIMRC, ISWCS, UCET, and DySPAN).

The Vice-Principal at Shah & Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College, Dr. Vinit Kotak is also a Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering. He has more than 29 years of teaching experience. He is also heading the Training & Placement Department of the Institute. He received his Master’s & PhD degrees from both VJTI, Mumbai in 1997 and 2015 respectively. He has guided about 12 ME/MTech students.

An Execom Member since more than 15 years, Dr. Vinit Kotak is currently the Secretary, of the IEEE Bombay Section (which covers four states of the Nation, namely Maharashtra, Goa including Daman & Diu, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh). In the past, he has successfully shouldered various responsibilities of the Membership Development Chair, Student Activities Chair, Gold (Young Professionals) Affinity Group Chair. He has quite a few papers in his credit in International and National Journals. He has delivered many Seminars & has been Session Chair in various International and National Conferences organized by the IEEE. He has been awarded many accolades for shouldering above responsibilities from both the IEEE Bombay Section as well as the IEEE Headquarters.

To summarize in one line, Dr. Vinit Kotak is a TEACHER and a VOLUNTEER of Humanitarian Activities.

Dr. Celestine Iwendi, is a visiting Professor with Coal City University Enugu, Nigeria and Associate Professor with Bangor College of Central South University of Forestry and Technology, China. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom. Other assignments include Adjunct Professor Delta State Polytechnic, Nigeria. His past assignments include Senior Researcher, WSN Consults Ltd United Kingdom, Electronics and Sensor Researcher, University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, Lead Electronics Engineer, Inscentinel Ltd United Kingdom, Electronics Engineer, Nitel Nigeria and College Lecturer, Federal Girls Technical College, Uyo, Nigeria. He received his PhD in Electronics from University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, MSc from Uppsala University, Sweden, MSc from Nnamdi Azikiwe Nigeria and BSc from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria.

He is supervising/co-supervising several graduate (MS and Ph.D.) students and a mentor to ACM student members at SAGE University Indore, Indian. His research interests include artificial intelligence, internet of things, wireless sensor networks, network/cybersecurity, machine learning, data networks, etc. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles. He has served as a chair (program, publicity, and track) on top conferences and workshops. He has delivered over 20 invited and keynote talks in five countries.
